Let's talk, shall we?

A while ago, I made a pledge to leave social media, and instead use this site for people to stay in touch with me.

Why was that?

I have to tolerate advertising to talk to my friends.
Websites harvest data about you.
Social media companies have repeatedly shown they lack commitment to being a publisher or a platform for free expression.
Hatred and negativity generates the most interaction, which makes the websites unpleasant to be on.
People are nicer to each other in real life than they are online.

Most importantly: I am a person, and I do not want to be quantified.

Well, it didn't exactly work out. In fact, I've almost gone in the opposite direction.

I've been working on a film about meeting your internet friends, and I hope I can commit to that better than I did my previous pledge.

I made a compromise. All the things I mentioned above are worth it for the friends I have online. You know who you are.
